POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

POSTGRADUATE STUDIES

With more than twenty doctoral students, visiting scholars and postdoctoral researchers from thirteen different countries, the CTCC is one of the world’s leading institutions for graduate level tourism studies. Supervised by an interdisciplinary team of experienced and internationally recognised academics, our doctoral students work on theoretical and applied issues related to tourism, development, contemporary forms of mobility, cultures of modernity, festivity and identity construction, informal economies, image and representations, and the politics of everyday life.

From September 2008, we propose a new MA course in Cultural Tourism that will allow participants to take an informed position in contemporary theoretical debates and applied policy programmes focusing on tourism and its relationships with different concepts and expressions of culture. We regularly sponsor visiting doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who stay with us and collaborate in our projects. The postgraduate teaching and doctoral supervision that we offer is informed by active research agendas by our staff and commissioned work for governments and international organisations.

We welcome applications from suitably qualified people to take part of our new MA cultural tourism programme or to undertake doctoral work in the broad area of tourism and cultural change. If you have any further questions about our MA programme or if you have a doctoral project in mind and wish to be part of this stimulating research environment, please contact Dr Phillip Long (p.e.long@leedsmet.ac.uk) for an informal discussion.
